Lovinia Beach

Tasik Madu - Thursday 21/12/78 - warm & cloudy with rain

We got up at 4.30 am as we were cold and couldn't wait to get out of the place. As we were leaving one of the guys accused us of taking one of their dirty blankets. We left at 5am and watched the sun rise over Mt. Baten. We then set off for the descent of the mountains. It was absolutely freezing cold. The road was downhill all the way and very windy.

We reached Singaraja on the northern coast by 7am. It is a smaller version of Denpasar. After driving around in circles in their one way streets we eventually took the Gilimanuk road out to Lovina Beach which is 11 km out of town. We are staying at the Tasik Madu which means "Sea of Honey". It is on the beach and quite nice. The four of us got a 2-storey cottage which is away from the rest. The water is flat and the sand black. After breakfast of banana on toast I went to sleep until 10.30. Brad and I drove into Singaraja to have a look around, but there was nothing much. We just beat the rain back and for the rest of the afternoon sat in the lounge room. We met 2 girls from Sydney who could speak fluent Indonesian as they’d studied it for 4 years at Uni. We played cards (10 games of Gin Rummy) and ate and drank. For dinner we walked up the road to Mandala Bungalows and then went to bed.
