Kuta

Aquarius Star, Kuta - Thursday 14/12/78 - sunny & hot

Last night I woke up at 1 am with a splitting headache and very thirsty. When I went to get some water they had turned off the water during the night. When we woke up we had our breakfast and then Brad went to look at the surf. The cake lady came around again and I bought 3 doughnuts for 100 rup.

We decided to go to the temple at Uluwahtou. There was a sign outside saying women who were menstruating could not enter the temple as they were unclean. I had a pair of shorts on and I had to wrap a towel around me as my shorts were too short. The temple is reached by a long flight of steps and is not much itself, but the view is spectacular. It is set with three sides on the edge of the cliffs. The cliff faces are vertical, overlooking the sea. We could see little turtles swimming around.

After being attacked by sellers, we left for Nusa Dua (meaning 2 islands) which is on the other side of the island, along a terrible road, but the drive is worth it. It brings you out onto a beautiful sandy beach with clear water and a little surf breaking out on the reef. All the villagers are out in the water fishing and on their boats.

The swim was beautiful and then we went for a walk up to the headland where there were more beaches. We collected shells along the beach on the way back. It is a very pretty place. In the afternoon we talked to Peter, Les and Brenda, also from Australia. We went to dinner with them at the 14 Roses and had chicken ayam and then banana fritters which were very nice.
