Boat trip to James Bond Island

Picked up at 8am by a mini van to do the boat trip to Phang Nga Islands. Travelled for about an hour to the north of the island where our boat left for A Por Pier. Battled car sickness in the car & glad I had some snacks in my bag to fight it off. There was about 20 people on board including 2 muslim couples on their honeymoon from Egypt & Kuwait. Kept wondering if they were arranged marriages or not – one couple were very lovey-dovey touch feely & the other couple he kept trying to be but she wasn't interested at all!! Big old wooden boat this time & we all sat upstairs under a covered deck.

The scenery was just beautiful again – karst mountains totally surrounding you in all directions looking like the humps of a dragons tail.

Stopped at Panak Island where we hopped into kayaks to go paddling through these caves. There were 3 + our paddler in my boat & I got to sit up the front holding the torch. When I covered the torch it was so black you couldn’t see in front of your face. There were thousands of bats on the cave roof – was hoping they wouldn’t poo on my head!!! Some parts were so low I had to lie flat in the boat – could feel claustrophobia wanting to get hold!! We were supposed to go under a very low part that opened up to an internal lagoon but because the tide was too high with the full moon, we couldn’t fit under. Outside again we paddled around these immense vertical limestone cliffs that rise out of the ocean for hundreds of feet ….just spectacular!

Next stop was Hong Island where again we got into the kayaks and paddled under low rocks & into lagoons.

Then onto James Bond Island where the movie " the Man with the Golden Gun “ was filmed in 1975. Just beautiful but full of tourists. We were the first boat to arrive & the last to leave so had some to enjoy it without the masses. Went in to the beach by long tail boat that came alongside iur boat. Had 1 5 course buffet lunch on board which had some nice fish.

Heading back home we called into the other side of Panak Island where we could go swimming & kayaking by ourselves & explore around the little coves & beaches. Water was great to swim in & enjoyed kayaking by myself.

Very multicultural on board – Russia, New Zealand, Egypt, Pakistan, Kuwait, England & Australia. Met a nice Aussie couple from Newcastle.

Dropped back to the guesthouse around 5.30pm & went up to the beach & sat there for the next hour & a half to watch the parasailing & sunset. The parasailing was insane!!!! It was such a production line with people lined up with their harness on & as the parachute would land on the beach in front of me 5 guys would run in & undo that person & shove them aside & grab the next one, buckle them in & off they would go. It would be a 20 second turnaround but the crazy bit was watching this Thai guy who went up as well but totally unharnessed & would sit in the ropes above the person harnessed in. He had such upper body strength & would somersault himself into position as they parachute went up. He would steer it in to land on the beach ( amongst the crowd) & jump down first to land the person smoothly. It cost 1000 Baht for a 5 – 10 min ride. I was nearly tempted but remembered how high it went & how much I freaked out last time!!!!!

Had this Indian lady sitting on the chair beside me who kept farting so loudly & so long…. Classic!! She didn’t seem to be worried at all!!!

Had some dinner near my guesthouse & then had a shoulder & neck massage for 300 Baht.
