4 big days in big New York!!

Flew from Denver, Colorado to meet up with Shyree & Kylie for 4 days in New York. Shyree was flying in from England & Kylie had a nanny job about an hours train ride from the middle of New York city & had organise for us to stay in a friends house while they were away

We arrived in late at night & got settled into this huge unusual artists house full of all kind of strange artworks.Kylie's mum was there as well & the 3 of us had this huge arty rambling house all to ourselves. Kylie had to work a lot of the time with her nanny duties, so joined us in the big apple whenever she could.

It was about a 15 minute walk to the local station & then about an hour ride into Grand Central Station - another architecturally interesting building like most of the old buildings in New York The suburbs were beautiful & leafy & green.

We packed in as much in 4 days as we could & I just loved the sights, smells & different districts of Manhattan. We pretty well walked the length & breadth of Manhattan Island. Being in the middle of watching " Friends" I half kept expecting to run into one of them & see their local cafe!!!

We caught the train in each morning & & would stay in town all day arriving back in the suburbs around midnight.

There wasn't time to go into any museums but we walked past most of the famous landmarks & popped our heads in. We went to the top of the Twin Towers & Empire State Building.

We started off in the financial district of Wall St visiting the stock exchange to witness the craziness of their world, past the big bull statue before going to the Twin Towers. They were so high & can be seen from everywhere in the city. Kylie was freaking out & wouldn't go near the sides but I looked down to the street below where cars looked like ants!!!. The speed of the elevators going up to the top of 110 floors was insane

Being winter it was freezing cold & there was frequent stops for hot chocolates in cafes where we tried to warm up & thaw out. We had big coats, beanies, scarves & gloves but still our faces froze & noses ran!!!

Ferry to Statue of Liberty & climbing up into the crown was a highlight. It was quite claustrophic climbing the narrow windy stairs up to the top to lookout the tiny windows of her crown. Was amazing to have done all these before 911 as all these places are now closed off to the public.

We went to the top of the Empire state Building to see the sunset - another amazing building with big views. At night we went to watch a show , buying our tickets that afternoon at Times Square. Can't remember the names of the show but enjoyed both of them.

Went to:

Flatiron Building Central Park Plaza Hotel Bloomingdales Rockefeller Centre - watched the ice skating St Patricks Cathedral Chrysler Building Radio City Music Hall Carnegie Hall

I loved the districts of SOHO, Greenwich Village, Washington Square Arch & Park, Chinatown& Little Italy

One night I was to meet Shyree at a dance after the theatre finished & had organised to catch the train to meet her. Late at night the big blocks started to get pretty empty , where as a around Times square it was really busy. Made it to the station with great relief & caught the train. Was thinking that I had no idea how I was going to find Shyree when I got off as as there are always a few exits & one wrong turn could happen easily. I was so relieved that she had decided to come & wait for me at the station..... yay!!!

We had dinner in Chinatown & I loved it!! Dead animals were hanging in shop windows & it felt like being in another country with the restaurants being full of Chinese people. The food was so yummy & cheap & we ate so much. This night we tried to find a karaoke place but kept ending up at private booths which was not the plan but had fun just wandering around!!!

We mostly walked, but also used the underground trains which were easy to get around. Great vibe , & food & shopping. Loved New York!!!
