Visiting Tenali - orphans and widows

India is a unique country with so many challenges with poverty, gender inequality and the caste system where so many are disadvantaged.

The car ride to Tenali was crazy with scary overtaking and lots of interesting sights on the road!

When we arrived at the orphanage there was a big welcome banner hanging up saying welcome Pastor Leigh, Pastor Hilary and Pastor Sandy. Lining the driveway were all the children who threw flower petals at us!! Felt little weird and unnecessary but it is their customs and ways

We were warmly greeted by 100 beautiful young children that live in the orphanage . Then we met the widows who came to the orphanage . When a husband dies the wife is considered cursed and the cause of the death . These young widows and their children live on the streets and are looked down on by everyone. So sad!

We had lunch back at Param's houuse with him, his 2 teenage sons and his wife, except the wife was not allowed to sit with us but would eat later in the kitchen after we had finished eating. We ate indian style with our hands which was fun but messy!

After lunch we went to the Home where the elderly come for a meal each day. So sad to see these lovely old people who had no home or family to care for them.

Next door to the home we are able to witness the butchering of a water buffalo. Not for the faint hearted!!!
