Durango to Silverton Steam Train ride

Durango is an attractive little western town with a lovely fast flowing river running through it. We had dinner on the riverbanks and planned to go on the Durango Silverton Steam Train in the morning.

Brad was going to drive to Silverton so we only had to go one way on the train . It was quite a long journey - approx 4 hours but wow was it stunning scenery!!!! The windows were open & you often got grit in your eyes from the steam engine. We wove around the edges of mountains & canyons overlooking lakes & canyon rivers.

We broke down for a while which slowed us down even further - it took us 6 hours & Brad drove it in a couple of hours!!.

Silverton is even more of a frontier type town surrounded by beautiful snow capped mountains. It was a beautiful summer day & we drove a little out of town & found a lake to sit beside & have some lunch in a beautiful meadow.

We decided to do the long drive back to Denver in one hit & arrive back late tonight. The scenery was amazing all the way back. Was a wonderful week away!!
