4 days in Shreveport for Conference

Was in this small northern Louisiana town for 4 days over the weekend . It is only 30 minutes from the Texan border and couple of hours drive to Dallas. New Orleans is about 6 hours south of here.

We were staying at the nice Hilton Hotel downtown a couple of blocks from the Red River. Downtown is bit dead but you can see they have made some attempts to revitalise it . It has a cool area under the bridge with some restaurants but lots of empty allotments and feels a bit dead. Not the sort of place I would feel safe walking around after dark.

Along the river are big casino hotels and the casinos are all on riverboats as you are not allowed to gamble on land but it is ok to gamble on the water! There are a few lovely old style New Orleans buildings with the high balconies . It was also mardi gras weekend so there was lots of parades and floats in different neighbourhoods .

It is a gas and oil mining area but with the drop in oil prices lots of people have lost their jobs. It was also big as a Hollywood filming area with the diversity of local scenery. The Starbucks in our hotel was covered in photos of all the big name movie stars that have filmed in Shreveport..

Sunday was Superbowl so the restaurant was full with everyone watching the game.

After being at the conference and church on Sunday I flew out Monday morning to Hawaii.
