Bike ride along the Bow River

It was cold today and didn't get above 8 degrees until the afternoon. I rented a bike from the hostel for $20 for the day and went for a 2 hour bike ride on the bikeways along the Bow River. It was very pretty with the yellow fall eaves covering the ground and also some still on the trees. The river is fast flowing over boulders with several bridges - many for pedestrians as well as cars.

I rode over Princes Island Park where we had been taken to dinner on Friday night at the River Cafe. This island has so many black squirrels with big bushy tails scurrying everywhere.

I kept riding along the riverfront for a few kilometres past here and then turned back and crossed over the river to the other side. I rode along that side to opposite where I had started and then back tracked on to Princes Island from the other side.

Heading the other way my starting point I headed towards the the zoo and stampede park and then on to another island called St Patricks Island - with lots of lovely trails that crisscrossed the island for walkers and cyclists. The bike was a bit high for me with a high centre bar and as I was getting on it I somehow lost my balance and came crashing down onto my left knee. It really hurt!!! I rode back to the hostel saying ouch ouch all the way and sat inside nursing my sore knee and getting warm to thaw out my frozen feet . They were as numb and frozen as if I had been out skiing all day!

As it was lunch time I walked 15 minutes up to Stephens Avenue past the lovely City Hall building and the Teatro Concert buildings and park, past the Calgary tower to a Starbucks where I had a hot chocolate to warm up and some lunch.

I worked here for several hours and then moved next door to Earls restaurant where I had sushi for diner and walked back to the hostel around 7pm
