Banff you are beautiful

We rented a car from Enterprise near the airport and to only took 1 ½ hours to drive to Banff via Canmore. The Trans Canada Hwy has 2 x 1 million overpasses that are 50 metres wide and solely for the wildlife. to cross over the highway. Banff is the highest town in Canada with an elevation of 4,500 feet. The drive was beautiful with bright yellow fall leaves on the Aspen trees against a beautiful blue sky . It was a pleasant 20 degrees.

Staying at really lovely wood cabin hostel on the outskirts of town but only 5 minutes from everything as Banff is so small!

For lunch we bought a hot chook, avocado and fresh bread from Nester Market and sat in a park in the sun by the Bow River.

The entry park fees are $10 a day per person which you prepay at the info centre and attach to your windscreen.

Drove a 100 metres up the Tunnel Mountain Rd to see the Hoodoos – people like formation made from limestone and glacial till

Lake Minnewanka Deserted village of Upper and Lower Bankhead – dismantled coal mining town

Hot Springs and Banff Gondola Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel –the castle of the rockies built in 1888. There was a bull elk with a large herd of females - rutting season and can be very dangerous. Rangers cam etc move them to a less populated area.

Bow river falls - The Bow River which starts at Bow Glacier and goes into Bow Lake, through Banff and as far east as Hudson Bay

Surprise Corner – view over to the hotel Heart of Canadian Rockies
