Less than 24 hours in Madrid

I hung at my Lisbon Hostel till 11 am and then walked to Rossio to catch 2 trains on the metro to the airport. I had to then catch a shuttle bus to terminal 2 from the station where my my flight on Easy Jet left at 3pm. ( cost 59 pounds)

I arrived into Madrid by 5 pm , caught 2 underground trains and checked into U Hostel by 6.30pm. It was on Calle Sagast 22 by alfonso Martinez station and cost 19 e including breakfast. It is in a good area about 20 minute walk to cathedral and palace. Huge room with 8 beds and view onto the street. Hostel is only 3 blocks from the station.

Dumped my bags to go and meet John & Nat for a drink . They had said they were in a bar in the Plaza Major near the man on the horse statue.

I caught the pink line to Nuevo miniseries ( line 8) and dark blue line (10) to Alfonso Martinez. The first big plaza I found had a horse statue but hey weren't there. Realised I was in the wrong square. Bit further up the road I found the right square and them.

We walked to Plaza San Miguel and found this building like a big food court full of the most incredible tapas I have ever seen. We stood at high tables drinking sangria & eating tapas that cost 3 - 5 euro each. Sangria was 2.50 e.

We wandered the streets and found the palace that looks just like Buckingham Place but way bigger. Close by was the cathedral and beautiful gardens. The palace & cathedral were closed so we couldn't go in. The gardens were full of kissing couples - don't see that so much at home! The streets were packed full of people even though it was Sunday night and 9pm!

I caught the subway back to the hostel arriving 945 pm and had my last Spanish sangria at a local bar.

When I arrived at the hostel a Colombian girl in my room invited me to join her at the Flamenco dancing in the bar downstairs for 13 e including 1 sangria - so I said yes and had to have another goodbye Spain sangria!

It was pretty cool to see the dancing accompanied by 2 guitarists - it is very intense and passionate and their legs move so fast!! I stayed until 11 pm and then off to bed.
