Snowboarding at Beaver Creek

8/3/06 Beaver Creek

Drove to Keystone and skied for the day. Adam and Kristina left at 1.30 pm for home as they had Youth that night. Snowed from lunchtime and was just so beautiful and magical, but cold with the snow falling. It is incredibly silent in the snowfields. Nathan and I were freezing and went down at 3pm so Brad could snowboard a couple of runs on his own. Took 1-1/4 hours to drive to Beaver Creek as roads were icy. Staying at an apartment called Park Plaza right on the slopes and in the heart of the village by the ice skating rink. Went out with Lara and Greg, Mark and Leigh for pizza.

Lara bought us all lift tickets and hired me modern skis and boots. The guys at the rental shop made fun of my ancient boots. Leigh and I skiied until 1.30 pm snowed all day, windy and cold +++ 10 degrees F which is 10 degrees C. Got a text message from Lara at 1.30 pm that she had booked us into the Spa at the Hyatt for a massage and was the most amazing beautiful Spa I had ever seen. Had a big bubble bath, then an 80 min. Swedish massage, then another bath, shower and blow dried our hair. Most amazing place ever seen. How blessed am I !!!

Went skiing 8.30 am. Adult lift ticket price $81 and Adam able to get them for us $65 each and Nathan at $49. Cost us $310US. Leigh went back on first run and by myself for a few runs until found Brad and others. Had a bad fall and heard my neck crack which was scary. Went down a black run and did Jack Rabbit Alley through the trees and wore out my legs. Love doing that run through the trees! Could barely get home and couldn't take off my boots as so exhausted. After food and a rest went out again in the afternoon. Adam, Kristina and I drove home 5pm – slow and icy on the roads. Brad, Nathan, Mitch and Jaaden stayed for another night.

Beautiful day skiing. Paid for Adam, Kristina, Nathan and I $235 US. All the boys were going over jumps in the terrain park. Adam mastered the last jump and Nathan the C Rail. I even went over the straight rail jumps. Much better going down the black this time but still very slow. Feel like I have improved on the blue. The view was amazing and the sky so blue. Came back to our apartment for lunch and left behind two jumpers and my neck warmer as so warm. About 2.30 pm we came down and sat in the sun at the front of the Hyatt and had a marguerite. Once the sun disappeared there were blankets on the chairs to wrap around you and outside heaters. Was so nice and just watching all the skiers return down the hill. Had sushi for dinner.

Cold and snowy and my boots were really uncomfortable yesterday. Mark and Ross just took the boys up. Got Nathan's ticket for $40US. They came back just after midday as cold and windy and snowing. They closed some of the smaller lifts at the top due to the wind. Kristina did all our eye make-up and Leigh, our hair. Lazy day – reading and on computer. Left at 4pm and Nathan stayed the night.
