Arrived in Mumbai

Woke on the train around 6am just as it was starting to get light outside. Even though the bed was narrow, hard & had an uncomfortabe lump in the middle where the 2 seats met I still managed to get a good nights sleep.

Note to self = when booking online Indian trains don't get a "S" bunks they are the side ones as opposed to 2 rows of seats opposite each other

Sat on my curtained private little area of my bunk and ate 3 bars of mini chocolate and watched the passing scenery of wide rivers, open expanse, fields of sugar cane and sparsely vegetated areas reminiscent of Africa.

Squat toilet looks down on to the track and glad it had handle to hang on to when you squatted as it got very bumpy!!!

Passed by several tin slum areas – still a few hours from Mumbai, in the city of Pune. We stopped for several minutes on the outskirts of a town and I watched as 3 guys stood on the tracks outside my window. As the train started they grabbed hold of something on the outside of the train and held on for a few kilometres before jumping off – free transport to work!

Passed remote mountain villages where the countryside is very dry & saw 3 monkeys on the track. Leigh & a did a big walk through the carriages – lots of families eating food, all friendly when we smiled and asked if we could take their photos.
