Day 15 Carrion to Leon - bus plus walked 10 km

Boring morning. Listened to everyone leaving around 6 am and felt so wierd to not be getting up to walk. I had to leave the albergue at 7.30am and just getting light and still cold. Found a cafe to have a hot chocolate and sit for a couple of hours. Now moved to a wifi cafe to pass the next 3 hours until 12.50 pm. So missing not walking today! Watching the pilgrims arrive in from villages further back and alrady seen and chatted with ones I had met along the way. Saw the girl from Hungary I had met back in St Jean Pied du Port

Bus arrived in at 2.45 pm and found the convent albergue pretty quickly asking some locals a few times for directions. Ended up having 3 others from the bus following me and they were grateful it was found so quickly and that we got in and got a bed. Bed in a girls dorm of 24 beds and got the top bunk ..... Not my favorite !

Walked around this gorgeous old city of 130 ,000 with a Canadian lady. We had a drink in the cobblestones square beside our convent and old church and then got pretty last wandering the windy narrow streets through several plazas until we found the cathedral.

Paid 5 E to go in and it was magnificent with so much stained glass windows. It is a gothic 13 th century church and quite different from other churches with all it's glass. Also had amazing sculptures depicting the life of Jesus. I continued to wander for a few hours, bought a warmer sleeping bag, left my camino handbook in the shop and had to race back to get it. Would be lost without it!!

Sitting in the large plaza in front of the beautiful Town Hall a band in uniforms started playing and marching through the square. I followed them into a narrow street where a procession from the church then followed them through the winding streets. The procession consisted of 50 men carrying this huge platform of a statue of Jesus on the cross. Following were 6 women dressed in traditional mourning clothes of all black and a veiled high hat. One of the young girls just looked up at the cross the whole time with tears in her eyes. Following them was a priest and dignitaries with chains around their necks. A lady leant out from her balcony as the cross went by to lean out to touch it.

Had dinner of tortilla and bread for 3.8 E in the square in front of the convent and then bed. Feels very strange not knowing anyone at all as all new now that I am a few days ahead of everyone. Need to meet a lot of new people.
