Day 12 Burgos to Hontanas 31.8 km

Long hot day , sore feet and back from my backpack. First day of the meseta and it has endless wheat fields and few villages to pass brought and stop in for a break. Also has massive sections between villages which is really tiring when you can't just sit and rest your feet for a few minutes.

Getting out of Burgos was very confusing so glad there was 3 of us trying to work it out, as well as stopping locals and asking advice. The first section before breakfast stop was 11 km to Tarjados. Another cute village was just 2.3 km away and then another long stretch 7.7 km to Hornilllos a village of 100 people where I sat on the church steps having lunch. The cute blue shirt spanish people shared their biscuits with me. I have seen them the last few days wherever I have been staying.

The killer was the 10.8 km to Hontanas - so hot and so long and so the same !!!! There was a sign saying it was 0.5 km away and there was nothing to see when down in a fold of the meseta was this little village totally tucked away and below where we had been walking. Never have my feet been so happy to stop!

Booked into the municipal lbergue for 5 E and had a top bunk, which was so high and no sides. I struggled with my sore feet climbing up so put my mattress on the floor and slept there. Have worked out a plan on how to me home sooner , with some new family developments and will need to catch a bus through a section. Decided to get my backpack transported for a few days so I can cover more distance. Organsed that with the hospitaller through Jacotrans for 7 E and they will collect my bag in the morning.

Explored this cute village that doesn't seem to have any children or locals ..... Just pilgrims. Even has town pool that was a bit green.

Had lovely pilgrim meal with a couple from Norway and Denmark. They never serve veggies with your main ...always fries! Exhausted and in bed by 8.30 pm
