Verandah Resort is amazing!!!!!

Left Phnom Penh by private taxi ( $45) and 3 hours later we were at beautiful deserted lush tropical Kep, built by French colonialist in the early 1900,s but the villas fell into disrepair after the Khmer Rouge in the 70's. It has such an empty feel with empty fallen apart villas and is so spread out around several bays and beaches.

Verandah Resort is just beautiful and each bungalow with private entrances is made of natural materials and is all stone, wood and shell. We are in the Rosewood Room which is only $70 a night as it is low season ( and this includes breakfast!)

W have 2 balconies - one overlooks the ocean and coastline and there are 2 sets of doors that open into our roon. Has a japanese feel with the screens on the doors and our bed in the middle of a wood floor on a raised palform with a ledge all the way around.

Checked out the restaurant - open air all timber with great views, over Kampot Bay to Bokor Mountain . There are stone alleys and elevated timber walkways leading off in all directions to other bungalows that you cannot even see! It has a beautiful big pool and little a stone and timber jetty stepped area to lean on and hang off.

We booked out motorbikes for the afternoon at $4 each and went down to Kimleys at the Crab Market for my favourite all time seafood of prawn and crab with lemongrass, garlic and pepper sauce.I have dreamt of this food many times over the last 3 years since I first came here ( yep it is that good) !!! it was very breezy and the water was rough as we sat over the top of it in this timbered shack and had this feast with the amazing sauce all over our faces and hands....messy business!

Drove out through the very spread out town with it's dilapdiated old french villas and headed to the Vietnamese border about 25km away. Had to ask directions many times to Vietnam or Ha Tien ( Vietnamese border town) and often we were met with blank stares and other times pointed in the right direction. Beautiful drive through lovely countryside and past the salt fields. The last few k's was on gravel but otherwise the road was great ( for Cambodian roads!!!).

Coming back into town we went to the Sailing Club for a drink. This is where the wedding reception will be held on Sunday and is a lovely location overlooking the water and jetty and has the shabby chic look...very cool!!!

Back to the resort for an afternoon swim to cool off and then back out to dinner at Kimleys again. It ws so good I had to eat it twice in one day!!
