30th Wedding Anniversary at Krabi

Left Phnom Penh this morning to fly to Bangkok where I was meeting my Ramsey man to go away for our 30th wedding anniversary! Felt pretty cool to be meeting in the airport and then off on another flight to Krabi for 5 nights!!

It was just a short 1-hour flight from Bangkok and we were there. The 40-minute taxi ride (600 Baht - $20 AUD) to the beach was through lush jungles, still dripping from the recent rain when we landed.

We were dropped off at an inlet where a speedboat was taking us 10 minutes to the small beach tucked away in National Park where the Centara Grand Hotel was built in a little beach cove.

It is tucked under towering limestone cliffs covered in thick jungle that soar hundreds of metres high around beach cove on 3 sides…. stunning.

The boat pulled upto a floating walkway, which extended 100 metres out from the beach. Climbing off the boat and walking to the beach was one of the most hilarious exhilarating experiences as the jetty bows and bends like a mini roller coaster ride as the wave surges underneath it. If you hit the top of the crest as the wave breaks it causes you to run down the hill trough. Waves broke over the sides in some parts. We laughed and giggled all the way in. Watching everyone come in was such a sight as they swayed and tried to keep their balance.

Checked into our room on the 3rd flor with amazing views over the beach and karst rocks all around us, especially the tower karst right in front of the hotel.

Our room is stunning – best bathroom and a balcony with spa outside. A sign in our room said to keep the doors closed when out to stop monkeys coming into your room…we were soon to find out what that really meant!

We wandered down to the Beach Club bar and at and had a cold drink and fish and chips as night fell. Three strolling minstrels from the Philippines sang a variety of songs at our table…just creating this great atmosphere.

Back to our room we are surrounded by the sounds of the jungle with crickets sounding like a dull roar. Our bathroom windows look out onto the jungled cliffs soaring hundreds of metres above us – no need for blinds as it is just the jungle. The front looks onto the Andaman Sea….. bliss
