Cycling Pulau Ubin Island

Day 3

Helen from Holland & I headed out at 10am. Caught train from Bugis to Tanah Merah & then number 2 bus to Changi Village Pier. Caught bum boat to Pulau Ubin for $2.50. Rented bike for $10 for the day. Island is 2km wide & 8 km long. Explored all the roads & dirt tracks. So hot! Very few people now live there but lots of stray dogs that do. Cimbed up Jelawa Tower over the mangroves for great view & breeze over to to Malasia. The beaches on the northern side facing Malaysia were all fenced off by high wire fences. Walked along coastal walk & wayched all the planes come in to Changi airport. Ranger had a bright green tree snake which bit him. Had some seafood fried rice for $4 which was yummy.

Back on mainland Singapore we caught bus to Changi War Museum & learnt lots about World War 2 & the occupation of Singapore by the Japanese.

Back at Bugis staion we parted ways. I wwent off to explore Bugis Village area – lots of shopping/ eating/ ornate Chinese & Hindu temples. Walked down to the Singapore River to Clarks Quay past beautiful colonial buildings next to architecturally interesting modern buildings. Lots of tre lined streets makes it a beautiful city. Dark by the time I got to the river & the city looked beautiful all lit up. Got home by 8.30pm & dived into a cold shower as I was saturated with sweat!!!
