Unmatched coastal scenery to Dubrovnik

Neither of us slept much last night , I think we were worrying we would sleep through the alarm that was set for 5am. We were out by 5.20am and walked through the dark streets of old town where we met a taxi that we had ordered last night to take us to the bus station.

Our bus to Dubrovnik took us 8 1/2 hours and had a few short stops along the way. The scenery was amazing - huge mountains coming down to the beach, the road hugging the coastline all the way and little fishing and beach villages below the road. the water was the most beautiful colours - from clear to green to azure blue......just stunning!!!

Took several photos out of the bus window to try and capture it but they have some funny shadows on them.

At the border of Bosnia which is just a few kilometres of coastline that we had to cross we had to show our passports but didn't need to get off the bus.

We were so glad to get off the bus in Dubrovnik......8 1/2 hours was a loooooong time and I had horrible headache by the time we arrived. Once off the bus realized I couldn't find my glasses and had to go hunting for where our bus had gone. Fortunately I found it and my glasses on board.

Bought our tickets to Mostar in Bosnia for Sunday for 79 kuna. While doing that we recognised Lauren, an Aussie girl we had shared a dorm with in Zagreb so went and had a chat with her. She wa justt leaving for Split...second person we have bumped into in another town while travelling in Croatia that we had met somewhere else.

We caught the number 7 bus and got off at the post office in Lapad - about a 15 minute ride. We didn't have further directions to our hostel, just the street name so we asked at the post office for directions and got some bad ones and had to ask several more people for help. One nice lady said she would walk us there ( about a 10 minute walk)

What great surprise when we arrived to see how beautiful it was and how beautiful was the area overlooking the harbour and port. The owner Renata lives downstairs with her family and has a hostel with 4 rooms on the top level. Her hubby manages 5 hotels and she really wanted to run a hostel and opened this just 4 months ago.

It is small but so well decorated and comfortable and feels like a home away from home. She gave us a cold drink on arrival and was so friendly and chatty. One of her staff sat down with us and gave us a map and showed us where places are located that they recommend we visit.

We dropped our bags in our 4 bed dorm that we are sharing with 2 young Aussie guys and I asked her what the taxi number was so I could take Mum back to a hospital as her allergies have got worse and come out today on her face, neck and arm.

She was so kind and insisted on taking us to the hospital and waiting while Mum was seen and then taking us to the pharmacy to get medicines...sooooo nice!!!!. They gave Mum more injections, so hoping it works this time. After we went to the pharmacy we walked down the promenade and had a cold drink and loved the ambience and peacefulness of this beautiful pedestrian street full of sidewalk cafes and trees that leads down to the beach.

My headache was worsening and I had taken my second lot of painkillers and was starting to feel sick. I didn't feel like eating out, so we grabbed some cheese, tomatoes and fresh bread. at the supermarket around the corner from home .

After eating that on the lovely balcony overlooking the harbour where the massive cruise ships come in, and we got to watch one leave. I was starting to feel really sick and ended up losing all my dinner in the toilet....yuck. I asked Renata if she had any tiger balm linament I could use and she didn't but jumped in the car to buy some from the pharmacy. When she came back I looked so bad that she insisted I slept in the spare twin room that night so that I had my own space to be sick and she said she would not charge me. Just amazing!!! Was the worst headache I have ever had and eventually got some sleep.
