Love Pula and the Istrian Peninsular

Lovely sleep in and got up at 8.30am and went downstairs for brekkie. They had lovely fresh bread so I had my first lot of vegemite & butter on fresh bread in the last month.....nice! ( had bought it with me) We caught a bus into the bus station for the 10.25am bus to Pula. It was a stunning 2 1/4 hour drive mostly along the coastline. It is much different than the coast up to Rijeka - not as dry and very green and wooded. The town of Opatija was stunning with beautiful beaches and cafes on the beach.

On arriving in Pula we caught a bus a few stops and followed the directions to our hostel. The owner is lovely and gave us a map and let us know what was around locally . It must be the end of the Summer season as there are only 6 people in the whole hostel tonight and Mum and I have a 9 bed dorm all to ourselves. I think this end of Croatia may not get as many tourists as Dubrovonik in the south. Love the feel and size of Pula...very nice place

The wind was really strong when we arrived and it is cold, so had my hoodie on to keep me warm. It warmed up as the day went on, especially when you are out of the wind.

We headed straight out to the town centre which is a 5 minute walk - just perfect. This is a 1st century Roman town and so there is many buildings from that time,- the amphitheatre or arena which held 20,000 people , the forum and temple of Augustus, and the arch into the city.

We wandered around the streets exploring it and the castle on the top of the hill that overlooked the roman theatre and had a late lunch of a local Istrian dish recommended by our hostel host - Fuji and goulash - a local pasta - it was sooo good that we went back for the same again for dinner later that day.

Found the place to buy our ferry ticket tomorrow - cost 100 kuna $18 to get us back to Zadar. We caught a bus out to visit the beaches at nearby Verudella. It was supposed to be a 15 minute ride but ended up taking us 1 hour and 20 minutes as the driver forgot to tell us to get off and we had to do the whole circuit......grrrrr. Eventually got there and saw the start of the sunset......was hoping to see the beautiful sparkling blue water and have not seen it yet due to the weather!!!

On the way home we did shop at the supermarket for brekkie food and snacks on the boat. Got home by 8.30pm
