More walking - wore shoes today!!!

Late start again today & didn't leave until 10.30am. Going to Batu cave which is 25km out of town. I caught the Number 11 bus from 40 meters around the corner ( such a great location!). It took 1 hour and cost 2 1/2 ringgit's ( about 60c) with many stops. The classic was seeing the bus driver do a quick dry shave with a razor kept on the dash at the traffic lights. I was the only westerner on the bus & they were kind and told me when to get off & pointed where I had to walk over te road. Crossing the roads here is a lot like Cambodia except there are more lanes of traffic to negotiate. There are zebra crossings everywhere but they mean nothing!!!!

Batu Caves have been used as a Hindu shrine since the 1880's. I got my exercise walking up the 272 steps to the top & yes my legs shook when I stood still for the next couple of hours!!! It is a massive cave once up the top & has huge opening up to the sky & is full of Hindu shrines. Down the bottom is a massive 140 foot high gold statue of one of their deities. I loved the monkeys that were on the railings & steps as I walked up. I followed for ages this mother with a cute small baby hanging on underneath, but took off my cap & sunglasses as they love to snatch things & run off. So would love one as a pet!!

Didn't take long today to get a sweat up & have drunk bottles of water.I caught the train back to KL Sentral - 30 minutes & 2 ringgits. I sat in the women only carriage. KL is very multi cultural but predominantly Muslim. Also lots of Indians & Chinese.

Bought my sky bus ticket to get back to the airport tomorrow for 8 ringgit ( $2.50) Had a lot of trouble finding exit to walk to Brickfields the Indian area. Eventually got there but ended up walking around an area where there were no westerners but lots of Indian print shops. Didn't feel totally comfortable there, it was boiling hot & was just about leave this area when I thought I would try one more street. Bingo....found what I was looking for....cool Indian restaurants. I had chapati ( flat bread) & 2 meats for 3 ringgit ( $1) & 2 yummy desserts for another 2 Ringgit ( 60c)

Happy now, I walked back to KL Sentral Station & caught a train one stop to Kuala Lumpur station . It is a huge stunning building & used to be the main station. It was built in 1904, has domes, arches, cupolas & minarets & looks like something off an elaborate hollywood set.

Over the road is another huge beautiful building the KTM headquarters for Malaysian Railway. More negotiating crazy roads to get to the Masid Negara ( National Mosque) It has a unique star shaped dome with a bright blue roof. It's tall minaret & blue roof made it easy to spot yesterday from the top of the KL Tower.

It is situated on the fringe of the KL Lake Gardens and my plan was to walk through this large park which has a bird park, Butterfly Park, orchid gardens , deer park & lake park. .I planned to com out near Merdeks square to walk home but somehow took a wrong turn & did big loop & ended up back by the mosque & railway station. It ended up being good mistake & closer to home but meant trying to cross all these busy roads with 4 lanes of traffic with no footpaths!

I got back to Pasar Seni station & walked beside the river under these huge old Banyan Trees Sooo hot & my legs were aching!! Finally back to the hostel to sit in air con & have a cold coke....sooo good!!! Cacthing up on my blog for the last few days & then will go out again to Chinatown for some dinner & a wander. Want to buy some more plums - the ones I bought yesterday were just amazing!!! People her have been so helpful & will even approach me to find out where I want to go if I am looking a little lost!!! Lost can be good for awhile as you see things you never planned on!!

Went out for dinner around 7pm & caught this sunset picture

Found local looking chinese place & decided to try Shark fin & crab meat soup & also had sweet & sour pork. all was very good!!!
