Kansas

Wednesday -Saturday:

We were met by Paul Laurie from Life Church in Augusta about 40 mins drive away

We knew straight away we were in a different part of the states with signs on the baggage carousels letting hunters know where to pick up their guns. It is the heartland of America with FLAT Rolling praries, big skies, massive winds called straight winds & tornadoes ( luckily not while we were there! )

Wichita started in 1870 as a cattle town, in the 1880's it was the fastest growing city in the US. It was an entrepreneurial town & Pizza Hut started there in the 1950’s.

We were booked into the Holiday Inn in El Dorado & got ready for the meeting at church that night. Was a good night & met some great people. Afterwards we had a late dinner & there wasn’t much open to choose from & we ended up in a typical American bar that served food. It was loud & felt like right out of the movies & felt like the place went quiet as everyone checked out the new people in town as we walked in . On the menu was Mountain Oysters which are apparently bulls balls!!! Passed on that & had some sweet potato fries dipped in honey mustard sauce – of my gosh!!! Leigh ordered Onion rings which were the most massive things I had ever seen

Augusta is very small & has some cute old American style homes

Had lunch at a chinese restaurant on the Thursday with Stacy & Rhonda from church. Went to Dillards in Augusta & bought a new watch & some jewellery. Could have sold our genie pants & Cambodian jewellery from our bodies & decided we need to always have them on us in future!!!!

Laurie took us shopping in Wichita to Sams Club ( that bought back memories of when we lived here) & Dillards. I bought Nath his requested LARGE box of Goldfish crackers from Sams to take home with me. They have hand sanitiser wipes to wipe down the trolley ( cart) handle in the shops to stop the spread of germs. Leigh loved this a she mentions how this is the germiest place in her preach. Everything in Sams Club is oversized & supersized & you use a flatbed trolley or another trolley that looks like it took growth hormones! Lots of fun!!!

Also, Wal Mart.........

She also bravely lent us her car one afternoon when she went to work & we managed to not get lost! The road out of Augusta was called the Yellow brick road ( Wizard of Oz) & passed through farmland & oil rigs in fields. Just outside of town is a massive oil refinery

Afterwards we had lunch at Bella Luna – a great Italian restaurant where I had a thin crust vegetarian pizza …. very good

Friday night was the women’s meeting which we both shared at. Was a great night & God touched & ministered to many women & we met some great ladies who want to be involved in making a stand against human trafficking
