Greys Peak- climbed my first fourteener!

A group of 6 of us climbed our first " fourteener" – Greys Peak. We drove a couple of hours to the car parking area & then it took us 3 hours hiking up & 2 hours down. The first part was pretty easy & through a beautiful valley with meadows filled with flowers. There were the odd patches of snow on the mountain tops. We had to leave very early so that we were beginning our descent at midday to avoid lightning strikes from the afternoon storms. The steep switchbacks above the tundra line & the high altitude meant my heart was racing – 160 at one point & I had to rest to get my breath at every turn

At one stage guys carrying bikes ran up past us...insane!!!!

Standing at the top was like standing on the top of the world & overlooking nearby Torres peak & Breckenridge & Lake Dillon. Stunning scenery & it felt soooo good to have made it to the top!
