Coen - Tuesday 23rd August 1977

We didn't wake up today until 7.00 and it was to the sound of hundreds of birds. It was really nice. Today Sue and I went in the truck. Sue went in the cabin with Noel and Digger until lunch and I went with them from lunch until we reached Coen. We crossed the Wenlock River successfully and had to tow this Victorian 2-wheel drive who thought he might reach the Cape. Nothing much happened in the morning. We stopped for a yummy lunch of salad, just before the Archer River. Then I rode in the front which is good, even though it is a bit bumpy. Digger and Noel live at Nambour and Digger is an Undertaker. We reached Coen at about 4.00 and went to the general store. We practically bought the store out of drinks, biscuits, etc. Everyone pigged themselves. My skin is really dry and cracked and all I could buy for it was baby oil. We are camping by the river again. Sue and I had a skinny dip bath in the creek and then dinner. Then we looked at the stars and listened to cassettes. I saw a satellite and a falling star.
