Bauple (near Maryborough) - 5th August 1977

Sue, Mrs Usher and I left Somerville House at 12.00 pm. We drove to Marist Brothers and had pies and sausage rolls for lunch. We then left the school at 1.00 pm. Channel 7 was there to see the 4 cars and 1 truck off. Sue and I went in Mrs Usher's car. We drove to Nambour where we refuelled and the Nambour Press was there to interview and photograph. We then drove onwards through Gympie and set up camp at a place called Bauple, just before Maryborough. We arrived about ½ hour before it got dark and just had time to put up our tents. We were put in our groups for duties. Sue and Allison Usher are in Group 2 and Cathy Miller and I are in group 4. That night Sue had to put up tents and I had to unload the trucks. After the fire was built, dinner started to be cooked. We had curried sausages which were OK and then had crumpets cooked over the fire. They were beautiful with tons of butter and honey. After clearing up we went to bed. It was pretty cold, so we didn’t sleep very well., probably because we couldn’t be bothered blowing up our air mattresses.
