Last few animal sightings

Woke up at midnight to hear loud tree cracking noise right outside our balcony. Got up to see if I could see the offending elephants but they were too well hidden by the trees. Loud cracking went on for ages... always something happening!!!

Up at 5.15am for our last game drive & it was freezing!!!! Highlight was 6 HUGE bull elephants in their batchelor pack crossing the road behind us & eating. They again got so close to us & were absolutely massive. The biggest one had tusks over a metre long & was 35 - 40 years old.

Just saw a baby giraffe of 3 months with its mum

In the last 5 minutes as we approached the lodge we saw warthog up close, vervet monkeys & 2 baboons in trees. Only animals we didn't end up seeing was leopard & hyena & some cats.

Raced in for breakfast, shower & time to say goodbye to the lovely staff who were so friendly & looked after us so well.

We were picked up by a van to go for the 1 hour drive to the airport at Hoedspruit. Th driver was saying his family have lived here for 350 years & we asked if they had any close encounters with animals.

He said - being charged by elephant & rhino but the most exciting was seeing a black rhino & her baby - the car got between the mother & baby so mamma charged his car & rolled it . They had to sit on the roof & wait for help for 4 hours until mamma calmed down!!!!

The airport is shared with the airforce & has a 4 km long runway that is a back up for the US Space shuttle to land on.

Now in Johannesburg waiting for our flight to Sydney & Brisbane. Has been the BEST 2 week holiday & would definitely come back to Africa to see more
