The Butcher Shop in Johannesburg

Lazy day catching the 2 hour midday flight to J'Burg. It reminded us a lot of Denver - on a plateau at 5000 feet. It is Winter so it is flat & brown & dry with no leaves on the trees. It is a city of about 10 million & known as a city with the highest murder rate in the world!! South Africa also has he tragic statistic of girls having a higher chance of being raped than learning ho to read!!

We are staying at Sandton which is the new financial & central district about 10 km from the city. The old city centre has pretty well been deserted and is not recommended to visit by the locals. We were picked up by Andrew from the church where Mark is preaching this weekend. He told us to have the doors locked because of car jackings & that people will smash car windows to steal bags off the seats when you are parked at traffic lights. We were also told not to walk around outside the shopping area

We are staying at the incredibly luxurious Michelangelo Hotel & our room overlooks Nelson Mandela Square with a massive statue of the a fore named. Has a very comfortable lounging area and little balcony like room with a view overlooking the sqaure where I set myself up with book, coke & nuts. Brad had taken himself off to walk around the square, so I had the room to myself. Nice moment until dragged off to look around the shops with security Leigh who had left her handbag at reception while we were checking in. Leigh gives us plenty of laughs!!!

The square has many restaurants & most importantly the Butcher shop that our South African friends had recommended we eat at. Leigh & I went foundation shopping & I discovered Orlane product .....soo nice but too expensive.

We had dinner at the Butcher shop which is amazing. It is huge with animals mounted on the walls, a display of all the meat cuts & whole side of animals hanging in the kitchen area.

The meat is better than anything I have eaten before. I ordered a T Bone & when I cut into it , it felt like the knife was going through silk & tasted like silk. I had ordered the small T bone which of course was still massive & only managed to eat half of it.

Leigh had rib fillet & the boys had the the ribs of course. There was much raving from all!!! Leigh had to make a quick exit back to the hotel as she was so tired & full from drinking too much water!!! ( nothing to do with being full from eating all her massive steak & entree of ribs!!!) Another great day full of sightsls, tastes & fun!!!!
