25 hours on a train - sounds awful but was great !

25 hours travel on a train was great! We had booked bottom bunks on a soft sleeper & didn't have to share with anyone else which was great! Got in my jammies & we were comfortable. Had a good nights sleep & woke up to see beautiful scenery. It was really mountainous so we were going through many tunnels. Passed cute villages & the houses were totally different to other homes I had seen. they wrre 2 storey long dark wooden homes & nestled in the sides of hills. Rice was grown right up to the train tracks & I think another crop I saw being grown on hillsides was tea.

Around Badu was beautiful karst scenery. Nath slept for 15 hours!!!! He had to only fill in 10 hours & watched movies on the laptop. I enjoyed reading & watching the scenery & the time went by quickly.

We had heard the food was bad on the train & stocked up on snacks which we munched our way through - mandarins, bakery items, chips & chocolates. Not exactly healthy!!!

Squat toilet was pretty smelly but could have been worse. We arrived in Guilin at 5.30pm & just walked over the road to our hostel. We have a 4 bed dorm & are the only ones in it.

Been working out what we will do tomorrow & chatted with some Czech people living in San Francisco & travelling for a year. Eating at the hostel as can't be bothered going out.
