Picked up luggage from olur hostel & hung out on internet for couple of hours 5. Amazing day with beautiful blue sky. The bus ride from Shangri La was supposed to be on the Express bus that was also a little bigger & more comfortable. That wasn't the case & it was pretty small & cramped, it stoppped to let people on & off & people smoked & of course spat out the window frequently!! It wasn't too bad & passed quickly & the scenery was stunning. Past endless fields of corn ( no rice here), farmhouses & tibetan people in the fields & on the streets. Then it was downhill for ages as we descended the mountains - hairpin turn after turn & some close calls with crazy overtaking & pulling in just in front of us. Gets the heart rate going!!! It had been freezing in Shangri La this morning & we wore gloves & our hoods on our heads, but jackets came off by the time we reached Lijiang as it was really warm here.

Finally worked out how we can find our bus in the bus station!!! They never have a number or name of destination but one of the numbers on ypur ticket matches the number plate of your bus!!!! Got it worked out now for next time

Quick flight to Chengdu & given a snack & arrived at 10.40pm

The taxi ride in Chengdu was the taxi driver from hell. He drove sooo fast swerving in & out of the traffic & doing 140 km an hour. I could only think of how to say please in chinese & signalled slow down. I had to say it a few times before he took any notice but his driving skills didn't improve at all. This lasted for 40 minutes!!!!! He then couldn't find the hostel - even though I had given him a map with its location & directions in chinese. He stoped at a corner & told us to get out & find it. Of course this wasan't in english but we could tell what he wanted! Its now 11.30pm & I'm not getting out on any street corner!!! I showed him the hostel number & signalled to call for directions. He eventually did & we found it - yah !! Never so happy!!.

Booked in to an 8 bed dorm for 40 yuan each a night. Big room with our own bathroom. Great dorm & prob the best we have stayed in in terms of thought into set up. Had shelves aeround your bed to put things on, a bed lamp, bag space & lockable cupboard under the bed & a curtain to pull aroiund your bunk to get changed & to keep out light if others still up.

The place was buzzing when we arrived with people booking tours & hanging out everywhere. Went to bed about 1am..... pretty exhausted!!

PS Found some more great Chinglish signs in Lijiang - open for interpretation!!!

Don't fouch me for I will be a shamed Off my head there is a path You cherish my life, I repay your meadow Less footprints more aroma Waste papers you pick, deep affections you send Take good care of every green leaf
