Nath sick in China.... not going anywhere!

Poor Nath has been really sick today. Started having vomiting & diarrhoea at 3am & by 10.30am had vomited 9 times & couldn't even keep a sip of water down. Poor darl hadn't made it in time to bathrooms & there was vomit on our balcony & near the toilets!!.

Was worried he was getting dehydrated so thought I better get him a Stemetil injection to stop him vomiting. The hospital was only 2 blocks away & we caught a taxi as he was too weak to walk. Massive hospital & eventially found a nurse who had a "little" english who was very helpful. She took us to the first counter where I had to pay about $1 ( don't know what for) & then we walked from building to building trying to find a doctor that spoke english. They were very scarce being a Sunday! Eventually found one & she was nice but not very helpful. I explained he had food poisoning & I needed him to have an injection so he wouldn't get dehyrated & then I could give him the antibiotics I had. She took his blood pressure & listened to his chest, but didn't take his temperature, gave me some forms & said to go to the "charging room". Found that & paid 136 Yuan ( about $26) & they gave me more forms & pointed upstairs to number 2. Went there & pointed up to 3rd floor where no one was. Went back to find our english speaking doctor & she sent us to a window where Nath was to put his arm in & someone was going to take blood for blood tests. It looked dodgy & I didn't want them sticking needles in his veins unneccessarily, so asked could he just have an injection & we would be on our way.

The Chinese are not like us in regards to lining up or personal space. The whole time the doctor was talking to us & examining Nath they stood so close behind us they were touching us & grabbed our seats as soon as we stood up!! She then gave him a cup for a poo specimen & as he hadn't vomited since we got to the hospital & had kept a few sips of water down I decided to just leave. Was so glad to get out of that germy place that had NO equipment at all & smelled like poo! Found a taxi & he refused to take us as it was too close!!! So we walked back to the hostel & set him up on a couch as we had to check out of the room before going to the hospital. The staff had been so helpful & translated so much info for me to take to the hospital.

We were supposed to catch the 9.45pm train to Dali tonight & I thought I would wait a few more hours & see how he went. Has managed to keeop some bread & water down but has a high temperature & feels terrible, so got our beds back & they called the train station for me & I can change the tickets to tomorrow night.

I had to leave Nath & go to the station to change the tickets over. Caught a cab top the station & got in a line & of course people just come & push in to the line, so you have to stand REALLY close to the person in front to help stop people pushing in. Dropped Adina off at the Bus Station on the way as she was catching a bus to Lao - really nice girl I met last night from South Africa.

Sat all afternnoon & evening in the rooftop area on a lounge while Nath slept on the other lounge. Would give him bread & water when he woke up. Caught up on my E Mails & blog. Was funny hearing a nearby clock chime the same chime as Big Ben in London every couple of hours.. Not what you expect to hear in China!
