Over into Wales

Brecon Wales BB - 3/3/82 - rain at times

Walked around Lynmouth before breakfast. Lovely town at bottom of hill between two mountains. Two rushing streams meet and run into the sea. Left 9 am and drove to Countisbury Hill and back in a circle to Lynmouth. Drove to Malsmead in Exmoor to Doone Valley. Beautiful scenery and narrow roads. Stopped at Dare and visited old parish church where film of Lorna Doone was shot. Drove down steep Porlock Hill to Porlock. Coastal scenery to Minehead magnificent. Rolling grassy hills scattered with sheep, turn into cliffs. Drove to Allerford - village with quaint pack horse bridge.

Stopped at pub before Glastonbury for lunch. Passed Glastonbury ruins and drove up to the tor - tower on huge mound set in field with lots of cute lambs. Couldn't be bothered to climb up hill.

Drove to Wells and saw Bishop’s Palace and moat and went inside Cathedral. Outside is being restored. Lovely cathedral with big Cross near altar. Listened to choir practising. Saw old clock which is oldest working one in England. Drove to Bath - not very pretty city. Couldn’t find Roman baths so drove to Bristol which is a huge city. Drove over Clifton suspension bridge over Avon Gorge and then got very lost. Eventually found M4. Drove over Severn bridge to Wales. Most of drive through industrial town and ugly. Near Brecon magnificent high rolling hills with millions of little waterfalls all meeting in big reservoirs. Brecon medium sized place - not particularly pretty. Staying at nice B and B 5 pound 50p each. Ate takeaway Chinese in Laundromat while washing. Feeling sick
