Lunch with Uncle Alf & then on to Salisbury

Salisbury B and B - 26/2/82 - overcast and raining

Woke up 8.30 am and had breakfast with Hilary. Aunty Hilda and Uncle Jimmy gave us 10 pounds for wedding present. Went down to shop and had cup of tea with Aunty Hilda and then went to Uncle Alf's and Aunty Marguerite’s at Hemel Hempstead. Lovely house on river with Grand Union Canal and lock behind. Lovely garden with ducks on river. Sat and had drinks and then went to lunch at Old Swan Inn Hotel at Berkhamsted. Lovely old pub built in the 1600s. Lovely lounge - very cosy with comfortable chairs. Had drinks and then went in little dining room to eat. I had soup and venison and Brad had Duck a l’Orange. Uncle Alf has a silver Rover which is a beautiful car. Then left and drove straight through to Salisbury. Lovely countryside with little villages. Arrived Salisbury 6 pm and it was dark. Found B & B place near Cathedral in centre of town. Five pounds and 20p each for bath. Room in attic with little window and could see Cathedral spire. On third floor - lots of windy stairs. Went for walk in town - lovely old shops and pubs and narrow streets. Bought dinner and then watched TV in the lounge.
