Time with the rellies

Berkhamsted -25/2/82 - Overcast, raining and cold

Packed early morning while Brad caught train to Holland Park to pick up car and come back. Cute little mini - named it Kenny.

Drove out Bayswater Road and onto M4 to Windsor. Visited the castle - absolutely magnificent. It's so huge with beautiful views and towers reaching down to little streets. Lots of arrow slits and very high on a hill. Visited Queen Mary’s Doll House - 40p each. State Apartments 1 pound each and very beautiful. So many huge room - don’t know what they’d do with them all. Queen lives there April, June, December. Walked through old cobbled streets and back to car.

Drove through Eton to see College. All school boys dressed in black tails and bowties. Drove through beautiful backroads up to Berkhamsted. Little villages and lovely fields separated by hedges and covered with mist. Forest floors had carpet of burnt orange leaves. Visited Berkhamsted Castle, only ruins, but surrounded by double moats - very cold. Saw canal and lock and went to Uncle Jimmy’s shop and he directed us to the house. Aunty Hilda and Hilary, both very nice and talked all afternoon and had tea and cakes. Went to Laundromat 5 pm and did some washing. When picked up car started at 20,800 miles. My cousin ,Paul and Hilary’s husband, Ralph, came for dinner. Had beautiful 4 course meal. Stayed up until 2 am talking. Everyone really nice and had a lot of fun. Bedroom nice and warm and very comfortable.
